Maui Flea Market
Does Maui need a place where artists and craftsman can sell their work, gardeners can sell their vegtables, fruits and flowers, handymen can be handy, and collectors can trade?
It does, according to Edward Frazer of Lahaina, who is trying to organize a "flea market".
Frazer's proposal is to hold weekly or semimonthly swap-meets and odds-and-ends sales at the Kahului Fairgrounds.
Sellers would pay a fee for the space and the public would pay a small admission charge.
Oahu has a similar set-up which is very popular, says Frazer.
The idea got some favorable reaction from Maui Mayor Elmer Cravalho, according to Frazer, who talked with Cravalho recently. But Frazer said it will take a good bit of negotiation before he will be able to get an okay on use of the fairgrounds.
