New Maui Park
Development of a major new beach park has been authorized for Maui.
The State Board of Land and Natural Resources at a recent meeting authorized the State Parks Division to develop the Puu Olai-La Perouse Bay State Park and Reserve Area.
Joseph Souza, State Parks administrator, said the area will extend north of Puu Olai. It will include beach frontage at Maluaka, and go in a southwesterly direction ending at the Makawao District boundry line at Pohaku Manamana.
The park is expected to start at the shoreline and extend about 1,000 feet mauka of the existing Kihei Road.
Most of the land is State-owned and under lease to Ulupalakua Ranch.
